On Wednesday 1st September 2004, four British Bobbies began a marathon cycle challenge to ride from Portchester Castle, near Fareham, England to
Port Chester New York
Via San Francisco California
3700 Miles across Mountains, Deserts and the plains of the U.S.A.
The British Bobbies are:
Simon Wrigglesworth and Nick Morgan from Fareham, Paul Rowsell from Gosport and Alan Hockley from Southsea, Portsmouth.
The 3700 mile journey will take 7 weeks of cycling 80 – 100 miles a day 6 days a week. The cyclists will support each other taking turns to drive the support vehicle.
In England the expedition control centre is at Uniworld Communications in Gosport Hampshire. Here the dedicated support team monitor the riders progress.
The management of the cycle expedition and the fund raising for the Rainbow centre is done by volunteers at Fareham Police Station.
